Our Faculty

Our faculty and staff are dedicated to providing a comprehensive, practical and hands-on educational experience. Our faculty includes a clinical pharmacist, social worker, clinical counselor and a diverse mix of allopathic and osteopathic physicians dedicated to quality medical education. The entire team works together to offer interactive methods of teaching, and our multidisciplinary approach to medical education provides important training in all aspects of family medicine.

Louito C. Edje, MD, FAAFP

Program Director, Family Medicine

Responsibilities: Leading the program through the rapidly changing healthcare environment, graduating residents who are equipped to provide excellence along the spectrum of family medicine, maintaining the highest accrediting standards

Professional Focus: Preventive care and wellness, dermatology, organized medicine and health care policy (local, state, national)

Outside interest: Spending time with my daughter, an honor student and cheerleading captain

Allison L. Dollman, MD

Responsibilities: Coordinates obstetrics, gynecology, neonatology, endocrinology, ophthalmology, podiatry, and rural medicine rotations.

Professional Focus: Women’s health, including obstetrics and pediatrics

Jacklyn D. Kiefer, DO

Interim Osteopathic Program Director

Residency: St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, Indiana (Co-Chief Resident)

Fellowship: Sports Medicine, ProMedica Toledo Hospital Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship

Certificate of Added Qualification: Sports Medicine ABFM, AOASM

Responsibilities: Splits time between the sports medicine fellowship and the family medicine residency as well as serves as a team physician for The University of Toledo. Implements osteopathic and orthopaedic / sports medicine curriculum as well as leading the Sports Medicine track.

Professional Focus: Sports medicine, osteopathic manipulative medicine; trained in ultrasound guided musculoskeletal injections; encouraging wellness through healthy lifestyles.

Outside Interests: Travel, scuba diving, sports in general (Notre Dame football, Red Sox baseball in particular), and staying active.

Jeffrey R. Lewis, MD, FAAFP

Professional Certification: Diplomat; American Board of Family Medicine; Fellow, American Academy of Family Physicians; AOA.

Responsibilities: Coordinates pediatric, in-patient and geriatric rotations. Medical student education and evaluation process. Adult cystic fibrosis patient care.

Professional Focus: Currently serving as Associate Medical Director of Paramount Insurance and Adult Director of the Northwest Ohio Cystic Fibrosis Center. Currently a Member-at –Large for the ProMedica Toledo Hospital Executive Council and Member of the ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital Quality Committee.

Outside Interests: Family activities, biking, running, gardening, and travel.

Jennifer L. Middleton, MD, MPH, FAAFP

Associate Director, Family Medicine

Medical Degree: Ohio State University College of Medicine, Columbus, Ohio

Residency: UPMC St. Margaret Family Medicine Residency Program (Chief of Policy), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Additional Training: Faculty development fellowship program at the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Department of Family Medicine, Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities: Coordinates evidence-based medicine curriculum, scholarly activity elective, and the community medicine rotation. Mentoring in writing and presenting skills; assistance in presentation of materials for publication and presentation

Professional Focus: Research incorporating health behavior theories into patient education and medical technology’s effects on the doctor-patient relationship. Writing and editing medical literature. Active in the Family Medicine social media community since 2010, blogging as “The Singing Pen of Doctor Jen” and active on Twitter as @SingingPenDrJen.

David W. Oram, MD, FAAFP

Mark D. Krautheim, PhD

Licensed Psychologist

Director of Behavioral Science

Education: Bachelor of Science in government/anthropology and master's degree in higher education administration from College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va. Doctor of philosophy in counseling psychology from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tenn.

Responsibilities: Coordinates the behavioral science component of training including formal didactics and regular meetings with each resident class to discuss patient care, health psychology, and other topics pertaining to residency life. Schedules the community medicine rotation and is involved with the resident evaluation process.

Ashley M. Parrott, PharmD, BCPS

Clinical Pharmacist, Family Medicine

Co-director, PTHFMR PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency

Education: Doctor of Pharmacy from The University of Toledo College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Toledo, Ohio.

Residency: ProMedica Toledo Hospital Family Medicine Pharmacy Residency

Responsibilities: Co-director of pharmacy residency; rounds with inpatient and geriatric services; coordinates anticoagulation, patient assistance and collaborative practice clinics; and research.

Professional Focus: Practical application of evidence-based medicine, collaborative practice, improving transitions of care, advocating for advancement of pharmacy practice.

Outside Interests: Spending time with my family, watching sports and running.

Tony Pfeiffer, MSW, LISW

Social Worker, Family Medicine

Education: Bachelor’s degree in social work from The University of Toledo, Toledo, Ohio. Master’s degree in social work from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio

Responsibilities: Resource person for the psychosocial issues and social work needs of patients treated through The Toledo Hospital Family Medicine Residency; coordinates the geriatric rotation, family medicine selective rotation and home visits by residents; rounds with the inpatient team and geriatrics service; patient counseling.

Outside Interests: Attending sporting events and concerts

Virginia S. Hiltner, RN, MSN, FNP-BC, CNM

Undergraduate Degree: Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bowing Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio. Masters degree from The University of Toledo College of Medicine, Toledo, Ohio. Post Master’s Certification in Midwifery from The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio

Responsibilities: Practice as an FNP and CNM – well exams, routine care, acute care visits, obstetrical and gynecological care. Precept residents in obstetrics: didactic, clinical and labor and delivery.

Professional Organizations: Ohio Association of Advanced Practice Nurses, American College of Nurse Midwives and the northwest Ohio chapter. Medical advisory board member of the Pregnancy Center of Northwest Ohio. Mission trips to Haiti, Jamaica and Guatemala with International Medical Missions.

Outside Interests: Family activities, read, quilt, run, swim and bike

Christine Miller, RN, BA, C-TAGME

Residency Coordinator, Family Medicine

Education: Registered nursing degree from Owens Community College, Toledo, Ohio. Bachelor of Arts in organizational development and management from Spring Arbor University, Lambertville, Mich.

Responsibilities: Marketing and recruiting aspects of the program; coordinates attending physician and resident rotation schedules; oversees medical student rotations and the development of hands-on student workshops.

Professional Focus: To obtain a Family Medicine Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of Toledo, Toledo, Ohio.
