Family Advisory Council

The Family Advisory Council (FAC) is the voice for families at ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital. The FAC is a partnership between parents and hospital staff members, promoting the concepts of Patient- and Family-Centered Care and enhancing the delivery of health care.

Meetings of the Family Advisory Council are held monthly on the second Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital. The FAC discusses policies and procedures that impact families and facilitates activities that enrich the patient and family experience at the hospital.

Patient- and Family-Centered Care: The Core Concepts

Patient- and family-centered care is an approach to health care that is grounded in a partnership among health care providers, patients, and families. It redefines the relationship in health care.

As patient-and family-centered caregivers, we recognize the vital role that families play in the health and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and family members of all ages. We understand that emotional, social, and developmental supports are so important in your child’s journey to wellness.

Patient-and family-centered care leads to better health outcomes, wiser use of resources, and greater patient and family satisfaction.

Principles of Patient-and Family-Centered Care

Dignity and Respect. We listen to and honor your family’s perspectives and choices. Your knowledge, values, beliefs and cultural background are all considered in the planning and delivery of care for your child.

Information Sharing. We communicate and share complete and unbiased information with you in ways that honor you and your child and are useful to you. You will receive timely, complete and accurate information so that you can participate in care and decision-making.

Participation. We support and encourage you and your family as you participate in care and decision-making at the level you choose.

Collaboration. Patients, families, health care practitioners, and hospital leaders collaborate in policy and program development, implementation and evaluation; in health care facility designs; and in professional education, as well as in the delivery of care.
