The numbers are startling. Each year, 1.6 million Americans, aged 20 and above, are diagnosed with diabetes. Of those, 90 to 95% will be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes; and 5 to 10% will be diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. If you or a loved one is among the 10% of the population in ProMedica’s service area with diabetes, you know how difficult it can be to manage this chronic, often devastating, disease.

Introducing the ProMedica Mary Ellen Falzone Diabetes Center
At ProMedica, we are committed to improving the health and well-being of people with diabetes. As part of this commitment, we are creating a diabetes center that is uniquely designed to improve the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes in our community. Named in memory of a young girl who passed away from complications from Type 1 diabetes, the ProMedica Mary Ellen Falzone Diabetes Center will be the region’s first facility dedicated to diabetes education and care.
Located on the North Campus of ProMedica Toledo Hospital, the 55,000-square-foot building will provide pediatric and adult patients with the latest care, education, and many other services, in a convenient, centralized location. Patients will be able to see an endocrinologist, learn how to manage their disease and have their prescription and durable medical equipment orders filled all in one visit.

But how do you go about managing all the facets of your diabetes?
At ProMedica, we know that patients who understand diabetes enjoy a better quality of life than those who are unclear on how to handle the disease. That’s why we offer a number of educational services to help you learn how to manage your diabetes.
