Support Programs and Resources

A diagnosis of cancer can be mentally and emotionally taxing for patients and their families. You might feel isolated, as though nobody understands what you’re going through. You might feel as though you cannot freely share your worries and concerns with the people in your life. If you have been diagnosed with cancer, you should know that you do not have to go through diagnosis and treatment alone. We at ProMedica Cancer Institute offer many programs and services to support cancer patients and their families.

Listed below are a few of our upcoming ProMedica Cancer Institute support programs. Call 1-877-291-1441 to register or for more information.

Free Support Programs

CHAMPS (Choosing Hope and Moving Past Sadness) is a program designed to help kids (ages six and up) and their parents/guardians cope with a loved one’s cancer. The program is offered in two formats: as a three-day summer day camp, or as evening sessions offered each month (March through December). The CHAMPS program helps kids relate to other peers, provides a safe place for self expression, and provides resources to help alleviate fears about cancer. Call 1-877-291-1441 to register or for more information.

Support Organizations

While we offer many community-based support services to help you and your family when you have been affected by cancer, you may wish to seek further support and information. Many national organizations exist that can provide significant information to help you and your family understand cancer and its treatment. These organizations can provide you with free information that can be mailed to your home. Furthermore, many educational resources are available free through the Internet, which provides an invaluable virtual space for learning more about cancer.
