ProMedica Is First In Ohio To Offer Breakthrough, Non-surgical Treatment Options For Moderate To Severe Joint Or Bone Pain
posted on: 02/14/2014
TOLEDO, Ohio, Dec. 11, 2013 – Chronic joint or bone pain can be debilitating and limit a person’s ability to perform normal and recreational activities. Many seek relief through medications, therapy or surgery, which can be costly and may not fully resolve pain and movement issues.
Now there’s a breakthrough, non-surgical treatment option for people suffering from moderate to severe joint or bone pain due to injury and other conditions. It’s called RegenexxTM. It uses your body’s own stem cells to repair injuries. ProMedica is the first health system in Ohio to offer advanced regenerative medicine procedures.
“Stem cells become many different things depending on where you place them,” said Roger Kruse, MD, ProMedica Physicians. “We can use the Regenexx family of advanced regenerative medicine procedures for osteoarthritis of the knee, hip or shoulders. We can also use it for tennis elbow, jumper’s knee or Achilles tendonitis.”
A typical regenerative medicine procedure involves removing stem cells from the hip. The cells are processed and injected into the injured part of the body on the same day. Patients who undergo regenerative medicine procedures can go home the same day and often resume light activity within a week. The full results of the procedures usually appear in one – three months.
“The benefit of regenerative medicine is that it’s your own body healing itself so it’s safer and much less risky than major surgery,” Dr. Kruse said. “Plus there’s not much downtime.”
