Toledo Hospital Foundation

Each day, thousands of people care for the patients and families at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. From the frontline caregivers to people behind the scenes, each individual plays an important role in the history and continuation of the legacy of Toledo Hospital.

Toledo Hospital came into existence in 1874 in a small home near the area of Bancroft and Cherry Streets, created by a group of nondenominational Christian women to care for the poor and the sick. After outgrowing the original location, then two others, community members began a fundraising campaign, chaired by W. W. Knight, to build a new hospital at the North Cove Blvd. location. The new hospital location opened in 1930.

Since its humble beginning in 1874, Toledo Hospital has been an important pillar of our community, continuing to improve its health and well-being.

Our Foundation

Because of the efforts of community hospitals, like ProMedica Toledo Hospital Hospital, far more patients survive serious diseases and injuries than would have been possible just a few years ago. Every new piece of equipment and each new medical professional we recruit makes every family in our region—including yours—a little healthier.

A vital source of funding our efforts to improve your health and well-being is the philanthropic support of people like you! The generosity of our donors provides us the opportunity to maintain a hospital that is modern and progressive. Without this community support, many of these services and programs would simply not be possible.

The professionals at ProMedica Toledo Hospital Foundation help caring donors establish the charitable venue that best suits their goals. There are many ways you can help: annual giving, planned giving, specific needs, memorial gifts or gifts in honor of a recipient.

As a not-for-profit community hospital, ProMedica Toledo Hospital depends heavily on the generosity of our caring donors to fulfill our primary mission. Every gift, no matter how large or small, helps to save lives and create a better community.

The Classic

ProMedica Toledo Hospital’s only annual fundraising event, The Classic, will take place on May 29, 2013. This year’s event will take place on the rooftop of Stone Oak Country Club featuring grazing gourmet fare, live music entertainment, and live and silent auctions.

Proceeds from the events will again support heart services at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. To support The Classic, please contact Mary Sabin at 419-291-7473 or mary.sabin@promedica.org.

In past years, The Classic raised more than $150,000 for heart care and nearly $200,000 in support of ProMedica Breast Care. Proceeds were used to purchase a new ultrasound machine, blanket warmer and a full table top replacement for the stereotactic breast table called a MultiCare Maximum Comfort Kit. This is a super-soft highly compressible foam unit to facilitate and enhance patient comfort as they undergo stereotactic procedures.

ProMedica Toledo Hospital board members and event volunteers will review and redirect The Classic funding focus every two years to continue to meet the needs of many ProMedica Toledo Hospital clinical areas.

Families and philanthropic purpose

Philanthropy can be a force that unites and focuses a family. At ProMedica, we have helped generations of families fulfill their philanthropic visions. We bring extensive skill, knowledge and hands-on experience to support your family in defining and realizing their unique philanthropic purpose.

Many families face a significant challenge in passing the values of personal commitment, involvement and contribution to younger generations. Philanthropy is a powerful, proven means for integrating wealth and family by bridging generations and uniting family members around common causes and shared concerns. Philanthropy empowers individual family members by offering them significant responsibility for activities and issues that are important to them.

Define your purpose

Philanthropic efforts require focus in order to succeed. Betsy Kelsey, Director ProMedica Planned Giving, offers you personal support and an array of tools to help you and your family assess your goals, values and interests, allowing you to create a philanthropic road map to guide you in developing a more formal statement of purpose, including:

What you want your philanthropy to stand for

The issues, geography and populations you want to affect

How your giving will achieve your goals
